Job Description:

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE: The primary responsibility of this role is to manage the development and implementation of strategic and operation plans for Latin America Area (Central America, the Caribbean and South America including Mexico), working with the senior director global operations, senior manager global operations and support staff at headquarters.  This role is to create and grow an organization that represents NACE International in LAA.

SKILLS: Excellent work ethic, planning, organizing, prioritizing and communication skills (Portuguese, Spanish and English, written and oral) are critical. The ability to interact successfully with different types of individuals and personalities is required. Working independent of direct supervision, he or she must be experienced in strategic business planning, budgeting and financial management. Latin America market knowledge is necessary, particularly in marketing and corrosion disciplines. Demonstrated ability to develop business plans for innovative products/services and successfully launch new products/services. An understanding of how a member association functions is a plus.  An appreciation of and ability to work with western counterparts. Public speaking ability is desirable.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree is minimal requirement. Master’s degree in Business Administration is preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Must have a minimum of eight years of managerial experience part of which is in senior management positions in a western based organization, preferably a U.S. company or not for profit association. Must have previous financial management responsibilities. Candidates with an understanding of market research and data interpretation and a successful record in business development and market channel management will be highly considered. Proven record in working with partners is needed.  Has participated in strategic and operational planning in a multinational environment.   

LIST OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as the NACE representative in LAA with members, customers, government agencies, partners and academic institutes
  • Develop and implement long term and short term business plans based on goals and objectives in line with the vision and mission of NACE that result in an economically sustainable organization in LAA.
  • Develops new product and service concepts for the LAA market and follows them through development to launching with agreed upon business plan approved by supervisor
  • Develops partnerships/relationship with government and private organizations to promote vision, mission, global community, and business interests of NACE
  • Establishes, maintains and coordinates with member sections in LAA and engages with members to provides value to the member experience
  • Establishes business relationship with key corporations in the area
  • Establishes and monitors annual revenue and expense budgets.  Oversees financial management of NACE LAA office. Generates and submits monthly business reports and monthly financial statements
  • Participates in global large account management teams with headquarters staff
  • Hosts member networking activities
  • Advocates for corrosion and NACE brand
  • Hires, trains and supervises staff in accordance with business needs
  • Supervises overall office operation while keeping NACE LAA office legal and compliant with tax code and accounting practice

ROLE RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal – Regular interaction with counterparts of various departments at HQ

External – Frequent contacts with current and potential members and customers, strategic partners and the government.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides supervision for all staff in the office in Sao Paulo and future branches in the area

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Senior Director Global Operations and operates independently in accordance with approved business plans and budgets.

TRAVEL: A minimum of 50% travel in Brazil and throughout the area is expected of the position.
